This property has been our home for over 17 years. When we purchased in 2000, the house was divided into two and we bought the back of the house. Five years ago we were able to buy the front and make the house back to its original from when it was built in 1750. We instructed a local builder and worked with him to retain the original features where possible, but also added a modern twist to the upstairs to give a light airy feel.

The garden has been worked on over the years; borders, hedging and trees have been added, there are soft fruit bushes, apples, pears and cherry trees – in fact enough fruit to last us a year! There is a manageable vegetable plot and greenhouse along with many unusual plants to attract the bees and other insects. It is also a haven for birds such as gold finches and wood peckers. On hot sunny days larks can be heard on the Redhill, swallows swoop over the field opposite and in early morning hares can be seen boxing from the bathroom window. We added summer house made of Island stone reclaimed from a demolition in Ventnor to match in with the existing home.

We sit in the front garden and chat with dog walkers and horse riders that pass by, and watch the sun go down over the hills that surround us in all directions.
We are only leaving our little paradise to join our family who live on the mainland and abroad.
