The Story

BY DESIGN
Five-bedroom Hollington House sits in approximately four acres of land – everything about it is bespoke, from its architecture through to its interior design.
“I wanted it to be a modern country home, solidly built and with lots of large rooms,” he says. “It was important to me that much of it was open-plan, with plenty of windows and doors that took in the green surroundings and could be opened up in the warmer weather. This was a house that was made to suit us and to sit beautifully within its attractive rural setting.”

GREEN VISTAS
Arranged with four levels of accommodation, the property includes very large reception rooms. It opens up into a generous and airy reception hall, which leads into a large kitchen breakfast room; this in turn opens into the long dining hall, which itself leads through into an impressive drawing room, with a high, vaulted ceiling, bi-folding doors and an arched window.
Above this spacious room, along two sides, is a galleried landing, with bespoke oak and glass balustrades. There is also a family room, snug and study at Hollington House.
“I like all the rooms here very much but the drawing room is particularly impressive,” admits the owner. “We spend most of our time in there, relaxing, watching television and looking out at the view – it is like living in the garden.”

ENTERTAINING AT HOME
With such substantial spaces that open on to the surrounding terrace, Hollington House is an exceptional place for entertaining.
“We have had a lot of wonderful occasions here, from dinner parties for friends and clients to garden parties with large numbers of guests. The house opens up well: people can flow between rooms and out into the garden, and we can have the speakers on so that you can hear the music all over the house and outside too.”
With five sumptuous bedrooms on the upper levels, overnight guests can also be welcomed in comfort. There are a total of three bathrooms, including one which is en suite, and the master bedroom boasts a sizeable dressing room.

MODERN AND TRADITIONAL
Everything in the house has been completed to a high specification, using top quality materials, he continues.
“It is a modern home but with some traditional features and materials: much of the flooring is in oak, as are the windows, skirting boards, doors, stairs and architraves, while bathrooms are in marble. The designer kitchen is Poggenpohl from Norman Glenn; it has granite work surfaces, a central breakfast bar island, a stainless steel range-style double oven and a Franke sink unit with mixer tap and waste disposal unit. It looks great and it has been designed to make cooking and entertaining very easy.”

GORGEOUS GARDENS
It is the beautiful, mature grounds, however, that he will miss most when he moves on. With their immaculate lawns, beautiful pond and attractive seating areas, they have been enjoyed by all the family in all sorts of different ways.
“There is space here to keep ponies if you like, although my own children used to have motocross bikes. It is fenced in, with security cameras and electric gates so you do feel you have the privacy to enjoy the space as you wish,” he adds. “It really is a very beautiful and peaceful place to live.”

Setting the scene

Hollington House is set in a private position on a generous plot approaching approximately four acres. The grounds have been well looked after over many years and feature beautiful lawns and mature trees.
There is a natural pond, which has attracted wild ducks and other wildlife to the gardens, and a large entertaining terrace for outside dining.
The gardens are perfect for any family that loves the outdoors and could be ideal for those who have one or two ponies.
