Description The Round House is believed to have been built around 1880 as a tied cottage for the use of the 12th Duke of Hamilton's employees, one of five built at that time, but with only four now remaining. The cottage was built to a high standard and viewers will note that the brickwork pointing is finished in black to show off the attractive mellow red bricks. The corbelling supports the lower edge of the thatch and this was designed to throw rainwater away from the house, so there was no need for guttering.
The property has been altered in recent times both internally and externally but always in sympathy with the original concept. However, it is now in need of some refurbishment and modernisation internally.
The Round House is set in the most delightful location with charming well stocked and established gardens with a brick and thatch outbuilding matching the style of the cottage itself.
