Craik Depot is the former depot for the Forestry Commission at Craik Forest near Roberton on the outskirts of Hawick. Set among a small hamlet of houses now privately owned former forestry workers cottages and farm buildings, the plot has great potential sitting at the far end of this highly sought after and attractive valley. An ideal location for anyone looking for a country lifestyle with a good sized plot and existing outbuildings ideal for a workshop annex or other appropriate development.
DIRECTIONS AND LOCATION
Craik Forest lies at the far end of a single track road leading from the village of Roberton in the heart of Teviotdale and the rolling Borders hills. The property sits on its own across from former cottages with sheltering woodlands behind and is accessed via a small private forestry track off the public road from Roberton to Craik. Roberton is an attractive village with an active community with frequent events taking place in the local hall. At Roberton take the turn for Borthwick Water and head along a quiet country road running along the side of the Borthwick Water surrounded by wooded hills and open countryside. Hawick is the nearest town, some 13 miles distant and includes a large range of shops, restaurants, schools, sports centre, theatre and cinema complex and fine attractions including the Museum and Wilton Lodge Park. The new Borders Railway at Galashiels and Tweedbank lies 20 minutes away providing a rail link to the heart of Edinburgh with the main A7 some 30 miles to Carlisle and good links to airports with both Newcastle and Edinburgh within a 70 mile radius.
At the junction at the top of the hill take the road down to Craik Forest and once you have crossed the bridge take the first left into the forestry carpark and picnic area. The plot is entered through the gate with a variety of buildings on site, some in a state of disrepair, and is signposted Craik Village and Craik Hope Outdoor Centre.
Formerly part of the Hoscote Estate, Craik Depot was, as the name suggests, the former depot for Craik Forest and includes a number of retained forestry buildings and facilities. Now benefiting from Planning Permission to allow a detached dwellinghouse with a garage and outbuildings and the benefit of existing services on site. The current owners have improved the buildings with the addition of a new roof and these could easily be incorporated into the planned development with the potential for a variety of uses.
