Tenure: Leasehold

city oasis | Sitting atop a magical mews house is this picturesque two bedroom flat in central Hove. This house was transformed from the stables which served the grand houses of Wilbury Road in the 19th Century, so it oozes character and has lovely views over the city’s rooftops. It is also minutes from the beach, the station, and the bustling shops of both Brighton and Hove, and if you like cricket - the county stadium is across the road. It would be fabulous for downsizers, first timers, or anyone looking for an individual holiday home by the sea.

In brief:

Style: TFF in a 19th Century mews stable house

Bedrooms: 2 double

Living rooms: 1 open plan

Outside: Small roof terrace

Area: 722 SQ.FT; 67.1 SQ.M

Location: Willett Estate Conservation Area

Parking: Residents Permit Zone N

Why you’ll like it:

Walking down this private mews road, you would be forgiven for thinking you had stepped back in time to another era. It is a real haven with cobbles and a lovely mix of both residential and commercial properties which have all been recently restored with timber stable doors, in a mix of stylish colours, and adorned with floral hanging baskets.

This building is at the bottom of the mews, and has a commercial office; sleek in grey where the carriages and horses would have been, and the door to this apartment is in the middle with intercom access. You climb up a flight of stairs to a landing where your door is on the right, and once inside a further internal staircase takes you to into the flat.

The flat is immediately welcoming where all the doors are stripped and varnished in warm honey tones, and there’s a cottage feel with the angled ceilings and open fire. The living room is very spacious, with lots of room for sofas as well as a small dining table and chairs, and it is open plan to the kitchen, yet this is not at all imposing on the space.  There is space and plumbing for a washing machine, but the electric oven and hob are integrated, and while there are only units below the work top, there is a deep corner larder for storing food as well as crockery, pots and pans. Two large windows flood the room with light, but you can also imagine how homely it would be in the cooler months with the fire roaring.

The bedrooms are both doubles with oatmeal carpets. The master bedroom has a Velux window and plenty of space for freestanding wardrobes, the second bedroom offers a range of built in storage cupboards. The bathroom is nearby, and is fresh in white with a traditional shower attachment over the bath, and a blue mosaic border for interest.

From the landing is the most quaint roof terrace neatly cut into the roof space, and with enough room to sit and look out over the rooftops of the city, surrounded by pretty pots and plants - you could even have a vegetable or herb garden here.

This is is a truly charming flat, in such a fantastic location to explore the city, so it is sure to be popular with many.

Bear in mind:

The flat is all electric however there is a gas supply to the building which could be re-instated in the future.
