The Story

ENJOYED FROM NEW
The couple bought their exclusive home from new. They first saw it when it was almost complete and ready to move into. “It was built by a small independent builder as one of a group of four homes set around a courtyard, with a shared drive and then our own private driveway,” she explains. “We liked the fact that it is in a cul-de-sac, which was itself set back, and that the plot is particularly large. The house is spacious, with large bedrooms and an integral double garage. It has offered us everything we were looking for from a family home.”

LIGHT INTERIOR
Since moving in, Patrick and Anne have maintained the property. They have also upgraded and enhanced it to suit their own tastes.
“We updated the kitchen about four years ago and replaced the showers in the two en suite shower rooms with more modern designs,” Anne says. “We have also laid wooden floors downstairs and in two of the bedrooms.” The house presents a combination of modern and traditional styles, with walls that are largely neutral in colour or in pastel shades.
“We have kept it simple and decorated it to suit our furniture, some of which includes antique pieces,” she adds.

GENEROUS BEDROOMS
The ground floor of the house opens into a very generous entrance hall, with wooden stairs up to a galleried landing above. The hall gives on to the bay windowed study at front, and then the drawing room, the dining room, the kitchen breakfast room and the cloakroom; there is also access to the garage. Upstairs, the master bedroom is especially spacious and has fitted wardrobes, as well as a private shower room. A guest room also has an en suite shower room and fitted wardrobes. The two remaining bedrooms are also doubles and there is a family bathroom.
“When the children were living at home they appreciated having large rooms where they could have their friends over and feel away from the rest of the house,” she points out.

GARDEN PARTIES
All the rooms in the house are well used and each has a different purpose, Anne explains.
“We like the drawing room, where we have an inglenook fireplace, with a coal effect fire, which is very nice in the winter time: there are French windows from this room on to the garden,” she says. “Doors from the kitchen also open on to the terrace.”
The couple often eat breakfast in the kitchen but have enjoyed having a separate dining room.
“It is good to be able to close the door on the mess sometimes and to move into a different part of the house – particularly when you have guests,” she says. “This is a great house for parties: we have had lots of celebrations here, including my 50th birthday, where everyone was able to sit out in the garden.”

FAMILY FRIENDLY
The property is also well-suited to family life. It is within easy reach of schools with good reputations; there are plenty of playgrounds and outside areas, and there are lots of sports facilities in the vicinity. “This is a safe environment for children to play out in and it is a very friendly community,” she says. For those needing to commute into London, there is access to the train stations, as well as the M1 and the A5, and places like Silverstone, Blenheim Palace and Warwick Castle are accessible for days out. “We have everything we need close by but we also have privacy,” Anne adds. “We will miss that when we leave and we will miss the garden and all the space.”

Setting The Scene

The house on Lynmouth Crescent sits on a generous plot. It has a private driveway with room to park three or four cars comfortably and a double garage.
The rear garden is well-stocked and has been landscaped and kept immaculately by the current owners. There are lawn and terrace areas for sitting and enjoying the garden. Fruit trees surround the garden and there are beds for vegetables at the rear.
“We have the sun on the back garden here until late in the afternoon,” says Anne.
