Situation
Kames Farm is located in an area of dramatic natural scenic beauty at Loch Melfort, about 2 miles south of the village of Kilmelford in the Scottish west highlands. The house is set well back from the A816 on the south bank of Loch Melfort, and from its vantage point there are wonderful views out over the sheltered anchorage of Kames Bay, Loch Melfort and the surrounding mountains and glens.

Kilmelford and Melfort, with its scattering of, coastal ribbon and clustering of houses, is a safe and pretty environment in which to live, with a thriving local and social community. Nearby Kilmelford has a local post office, shop and provisions store where it is possible to buy everyday needs and requirements. The district is well served by a fine range of local coastal country pubs, restaurants and hotels, all of which usually sell local seafood and seasonal produce. Arduaine Garden, a mile to the south of Kames Farm, is famous in the district, originally conceived by J. Arthur Campbell who also built the award winning Loch Melfort Hotel. The gardens are spacious but retain the intimacy of a private garden.

The main west highland town of Oban (Gateway to the Isles) is about 16 miles to the north and Lochgilphead is about 20 miles to the south, both of which are recognised as main west highland towns and both offer a fuller range of shopping, professional and leisure services.

The west of Scotland is famed for its scenic sailing, associated chandlery and marina services. The sheltered sea loch of Loch Melfort is well known among the sailing community and has always drawn yachts and boating craft to its pretty and safe anchorage.

The local inland countryside provides an abundance of outdoor and sporting activities including hill walking and mountain biking, which are available nearby to Kames Farm and there are many small, well-stocked hill lochs for trout fishing plus some spate streams for salmon and sea-trout. Oban, Lochgilphead and Ardfern all provide further sea-fishing, wildlife boat trips plus sailing access to the west coast.

A local bus service runs between Oban & Lochgilphead and Oban has a mainline railway station with a service connecting to Glasgow.
