We have lived at Spiders Web for 35 years and during this time we have made and seen a lot of changes. We actually bought the house because of the view from the upstairs toilet!

The house has been standing since 1540 so as you can imagine it is very solidly built, some of the stone being from the castle at Whitchurch which was behind the house and many of the beams are from the Monastery that stood opposite until the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Many stories to tell!

There are supposed to be cellars under the house but we have never actually been able to into them although I have written a book about them. There is also a capped well.

The roof was completely re-thatched about 8 years ago and is in very good condition. The house has always been thoroughly decorated both inside and out and is in excellent repair. A new kitchen was installed in 2013 and a new bathroom in 2014.

In 1999 we had our old sheds [which contained four toilets and a charcoal burning copper washer] converted into a garden studio. This is a self-contained annex with a kitchen, bathroom and bed sitting room. The studio has a large patio which looks westward over our rolling garden and the Vale of Aylesbury. There are a great many birds who visit us including lesser spotted woodpeckers, gold finches and many other interesting species. We also have a resident woodpecker called Woodie who sadly has lost his mate.

There is a large courtyard behind the house which is fenced in for our dogs safety. The rear garden is on three levels with mature trees and shrubs and a large lawn overlooking a field with two Shetland Ponies called Jigsaw and Kit. There are also ducks who live with the ponies, all belonging to a house just along the High Street.

There is a garage with a drive and parking in the layby outside. We have a garage/shop 5 minutes walk away which sells a huge range of food and stationery. There is also a hairdresser and a beauty salon.

There is an excellent Primary School 5 minutes walk away and a back road which takes you to Aylesbury Parkway Station, thus avoiding the Aylesbury traffic. There are a large number of wonderful footpaths and views all around the village.

As we are moving to a new-build, we will be selling most of our furniture and to this end we have had it professionally valued, including our rugs, curtains, curtain poles and miscellaneous other items. This will be available to any potential buyer or sold on completion.

Some of the aspects of the house we will miss most when we move are the stained glass window in the sitting room with its prisms of colour shining through it in the mornings, the huge bank of daffodils opposite the house and our lovely Amelanchier which has star like blossoms in the spring.
