The Story

CHARACTER HOME
David, a former professional tennis player and founder of the David Lloyd fitness clubs, explains the house dates back to 1922 but was designed to look much older. With beautiful old beams, mullioned windows and herringbone brickwork it has an Elizabethan country house style. “It was the work of a well-known architect of the day,” he explains. “Many of the materials used in its construction were reclaimed and date back 300 to 400 years. It has the warmth and homeliness of a period home but the high ceilings and space of a much more modern property.”

LEISURE AND PLEASURE
Improvements to Cavaliers Court began almost immediately with the creation of guest accommodation and leisure facilities. “I remember I bought it just before Wimbledon started and they had just two weeks to get it ready for me: I then went on to create the annexe so I could move into it while work on the main house was being completed.” The exceptionally large studio apartment or annexe currently houses a cinema and a full-sized snooker table and has been a wonderful, self-contained space for guests to enjoy. Underneath it is a sumptuous leisure area, complete with gym, spa, sauna and steam room. “There is plenty of space in the grounds for a tennis court too if someone wanted to put one in,” he adds. “But I didn’t need one at home!”

SUMMER DAYS
The magnificent gardens have been a beautiful backdrop to many happy occasions. There is a large pond, stocked with approximately 500 koi carp and with a pretty bridge across; there is also an attractive outside dining area. “I have a swimming pool that I swim in every day; it has also been wonderful for summer parties. We often have barbecues here for 50 or 60 guests, with people sitting out on the terrace by the pool and the children playing snooker or watching a film. There is so much space here for everyone to enjoy.”

HIGHER THINKING
Cavaliers Court is very much a home for all seasons David insists. In the summer it is cool and inviting while in the winter it is warm and welcoming. An enormous, open drawing room has a central fireplace and space for a grand piano and is fantastic for relaxing at home quietly as well as celebrating special occasions, such as Christmas, with family and friends. There is also a large, modern kitchen and an elegant dining room. On the top floor there are three bedrooms, each with its own bath or shower rooms. “I wanted a house with plenty of comfortable space for guests,” he adds. Creating exceptional work space was also a priority for David – and he ended up with an office that was truly unique.
“I had a large tree house designed and built by an expert,” he explains. “It is a fabulous space that ties in beautifully with the house and is a great place to work. It even has a built-in music system.”

PERFECT POSITION
With David’s busy life it was essential to have a home that was well positioned for travelling: from the house he enjoys easy access to the M25, airports and central London. “I can be at London Waterloo within 30 minutes from Oxshott Station,” he points out.
There are good schools in the area and opportunities for walking, cycling and horse-riding, and there is a golf course just 100 yards from the house. “There is plenty to do here but it is also a very calming place to be,” he says. “You can have a swim, watch the fish and even spot the odd deer that wanders by. It has been a truly wonderful place to live.”

Setting The Scene

The enchanting grounds are very much part of the outstanding lifestyle offered by Cavaliers Court. Covering more than an acre, they include extensive landscaped gardens around the main house, with areas of lawn and woodland.
Within the grounds there is an annexe or games room, as well as the leisure area. The large tree house office enjoys a bird’s eye view of the leafy grounds and surroundings.
There is a generous swimming pool, together with various decks and terraces for outside dining and entertaining. The property also includes a large four-car, secure garage and further gated parking.

Whats Nearby

The property is conveniently located with easy access to Oxshott High Street (1.2 miles); Cobham (4.2 miles) and Leatherhead (2 miles) and their respective comprehensive transport and shopping facilities. Junction 9 of the M25 is less than a mile away with the major airports of London Gatwick located under 20 miles away and Heathrow just 22 miles away.
The area benefits from excellent independent, state and international schools, including ACS Cobham International School, St. George's School and Notre Dame Preparatory School.

Within Easy Reach

The local area caters extremely well for families with special provision for younger visitors at attractions such as Bocketts Farm and Chessington World of Adventures. It is the glory of the Surrey Hills however, that is the area's greatest attraction. Designated as one of the country's most outstanding landscapes there are within the hills picturesque villages, guided walks and historic houses. The cultural associations within town and country are especially rich and they make for a fascinating range of visits. Norbury Park, Ashtead Park and Polesden Lacey are on the English Heritage Register of Historic Parks and Gardens, reflecting their association with great cultural or landscape movements of the past.
