Property Description

Full description

Tenure: Leasehold

Brook Hill House is set in stunning and well-kept grounds including large communal gardens which surround the house. A long driveway passes through private woodland and beautiful gardens to a large courtyard at the front of this impressive building which is listed Grade II.
Apartment 3 is located on the ground floor and benefits from substantial rooms with a large lower floor beneath. It enjoys a private, south facing garden and brick built double garage. The accommodation is light and spacious with high ceilings and a large entrance hall, a large kitchen/dining room, elegant drawing room overlooking the private garden and two double en-suite bedrooms. A staircase in the hallway leads to three rooms on the lower ground floor, well suited for storage or office space.
The setting within the grounds is stunning and has the benefit of a shared hard tennis court and numerous viewpoints for enjoying the panoramic views of the unspoilt countryside, coastline and English Channel. Dorset's Old Harry Rocks and Purbeck can be seen from the grounds.
Brook Hill House was designed by architect Sir Aston Webb for the industrialist and politician Sir Charles Seely, 1st Baronet, one of the wealthiest men in Britain. David Seely (3rd Lord Mottistone) related how his grandfather 'was so keen to have the view of the sea and Brook Hill has the best view of the sea around here'. The build commenced around 1910 but Charles Seely died about the same time that the house was completed in 1915. The author and playwright JB Priestley was in residence during the 1950's.
Much of the surrounding land is owned and controlled by The National Trust and the surrounding countryside provides access to some of the best opportunities for walking, mountain biking and horse riding. Brook is an exclusive settlement situated on the rugged West Wight coastline of the Island with fantastic beaches close by, excellent for surfing, body boarding, fishing and kayaking. A path leading down from Brook Hill House leads to a local pub, The Sun Inn at Hulverstone. The village of Brighstone is nearby and has the benefit of local shops, restaurant and public house as well as a doctor's surgery, church and primary school.
