Lanfine Estate was bought in 1769 by John Brown of the Glasgow banking firm, Carrick, Brown and Company. He built the earliest parts of the present Lanfine House which was completed in 1772. In 1911, the estate was bought by Sir Charles Cayzer for his son, Lord Rotherwick and it remained with the family until 1967.
