The North Sea Cycle Route (Sustrans Route 1) is only 17 miles away where it passes through this historic area full of stone circles, castle ruins and golf courses.

Rattray is situated between Scotland's premier fishing ports of Peterhead and Fraserburgh, and Rattray Head is accessed via a mile long farm track at the end of which you will see the property with the dunes and lighthouse behind.

The property is an 1892 granite lightkeepers building which was built by the remarkable Stevenson family to the standard design seen all around the Scottish coast, but instead of the quoins being painted stone, they are carved from the local pink Peterhead granite making for a rather striking facade.

The family home located to the right of the main building was built in 1952 as two three-bedroom semi-detached houses, to create the extra accommodation required for the families to join the lightkeepers. When the lighthouse was automated in 1982 and the lightkeepers moved away, the houses were subsequently converted into one spacious five-bedroom home.

The hostel comprises three, two-bedroom apartments which makes very flexible accommodation. All apartments are used as a self-catering hostel, allowing guests to book single or double beds by the night. There is also a lounge and kitchen for guests to use during their stay. Larger groups or families can also book a whole apartment. Each of the two first floor units contain a lounge/kitchen, shower room four-bunk bedrooms and original under stairs bathroom.The ground floor unit contains a lounge/diner, kitchen, two large bedrooms and two shower rooms.

The family home offers flexible accommodation which is ideal for a family, or a couple running a bed and breakfast. It comprises 5 bedrooms with 3 of them benefiting from en-suite facilities, a family bathroom, lounge, dining room and kitchen. Some renovation has been carried out including new exterior doors and a new country style kitchen with central island unit. There are two other rooms with shower room suitable for use as a self-contained granny annex.
