Enchanting Arts and Crafts thatched cottage with additional bothy

Doonbank Cottage in Alloway has a spectacular setting on the banks of the River Doon and is surrounded by approximately 4 acres of mature, mainly lawned gardens and woodland. The property sits on the fringe of Alloway village but within close proximity of the Burns monument and the legendary Brig o' Doon bridge to which Tam o' Shanter fled to escape from the witches he watched dancing in Alloway Auld Kirk. Also nearby is the thatched cottage where Burns was born. There is a wide range of local amenities in the village including general store, post office, library and the renowned Brig o' Doon House Hotel and coffee shop. Alloway has a new primary school and there is an excellent range of shops, restaurants, recreational and professional services in the nearby town of Ayr. There are a number of well respected secondary schools within Ayr, including the private Wellington school.

Doonbank Cottage is a beautiful Arts and Crafts thatched detached cottage on the banks of the river Doon. The cottage sits within woodland and gardens which extend to approximately 4 acres and within the grounds there is the newly constructed Doonbank Bothy which is a two storey one bedroom cottage completed in 2016. The surrounding private woodland contains a wide variety of wildlife such as deer, pheasants, owls, herons and ducks and a rich variety of trees including oak, birch, beech, native Scots pine, holly and mature fruit trees including apple and cherry which produce beautiful blossom in the spring. Doonbank Cottage's eastern boundary is the river Doon on the bank of which Robert Burns composed many of his most famous poems, including 'Ye banks and braes o' Bonnie Doon'.

With its thatched roof, original leaded windows, distinctive white painted and terracotta brick work and pretty upper gables, Doonbank Cottage is a wonderful example of the period and full of character. The interior sympathetically reflects the Arts and Crafts style, with wood floors, open fireplace and exposed beams in the welcoming kitchen with range style cooker.

The accommodation comprises on the ground floor: entrance porch, reception hallway, beautiful drawing room overlooking the gardens with a lovely fireplace; formal dining room; fitted kitchen with wood units and ceiling beams, cosy study and downstairs cloakroom / WC. Upstairs there are three spacious double sized bedrooms, a family bathroom and WC on the upper landing.

The charming newly constructed Doonbank Bothy, designed as a miniature version of the main house, comprises on the ground floor: open plan sitting room with fitted kitchen off and shower room with three piece white suite. The first floor accommodation includes a well proportioned double sized bedroom with patio doors and Paris balcony taking advantage of the beautiful garden views.

The enchanting Doonbank Cottage is also currently marketed as a successful holiday let. Additional details can be provided by the selling agents.
