Originally built as a pair of two-up-two-down cottages in the 1870s, James Dolton, the first owner-occupier christened one of them "Norfolk Cottage". This was not inspired by the lavender growing at the front of the house, but, rather exotically by Norfolk Island in the Pacific where his daughter was born. The house was later the home of the much-loved George Reeve who was Leighton Buzzard's Salvation Army bandmaster for 48 years. George oversaw the conversion of the cottages into one property in the 1950s. The property has changed considerably since then, but still retains evidence of its former layout and continues to be known as "Norfolk Cottage".
