Communications to the area are good with railway stations in Carlisle and Lockerbie with links to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester (including the airport) and London, and in Dumfries servicing the west coast mainline including Glasgow. Carlisle station offers West Coast Mainline services to London (3 hours 20 minutes). Flights both in the UK and internationally are available from Carlisle Airport 19 miles, Newcastle, Edinburgh, and Glasgow Airports all 68 miles, 80 miles and 101 miles respectively.
