In the 1890s the second Viscount Portman who built Bryanston also built three hunting lodges nearby, one of which is Hammoon House. It was built in 1893 and has stuccoed elevations under a slate roof. The house remained part of the Portman Estate until 1923 when it became part of a large lotted sale when the Portman Estate was broken up.

From London take the M3 and head west onto the A303. About 2 miles beyond the village of Chicklade turn right and then left onto the A350 signposted Shaftesbury and Blandford Forum. Continue through Shaftesbury along the A350 and then follow signs for Sturminster Newton on the B3091. After about 5 miles you will reach the village of Manston and then turn left on a sharp right hand bend signposted Child Okeford. After a further half a mile turn right signed Hammoon and on entering the village the drive to Hammoon House is the first entrance on the left hand side.

From Salisbury take the A30 to Wilton and turn left at the roundabout onto the A30 through Wilton. Proceed to Shaftesbury and turn left at the first main roundabout by the Royal Chase Hotel onto the A305. Continue through Shaftesbury and follow signs for Sturminster Newton and the B3091. After about 5 miles you will reach the village of Manston and then turn left on a sharp right hand bend signposted to Child Okeford. After a further half a mile turn right signposted Hammoon and on entering the village the drive to Hammoon House is the first entrance on the left hand side.
