And she readily admits that having down-sized from a large property herself, this was going to be quite a tall order. However, when she first viewed this property, in spite of the hot, dark continental reds and oranges adorning the walls and the overbearing exterior, she fell in love with the place. "I knew as soon I as stepped into the hall that this was the place for me!" That was back in 2008 and since moving in, this family home has been transformed with gentle, pastel shades, a leit -motif running through its airy reception rooms.

Wander through to the kitchen area, and you discover a family space - the heart of the house - which in turn leads you through to the annexe; light flooding in as you do so, thanks to French windows leading out onto a lovely, south-facing terrace. From here you look down the garden to the pool, to your left, a raised decking area a separate entertaining space for the occupants of the annexe, should they so wish, and beyond a gate at the bottom of the garden, leading directly onto a recreation ground; perfect for children to enjoy. 

The Generation Game When the owners first took on this property, they knew that they would have to sort the exterior decoration, as we hear, "We have lightened the exterior by painting in Magnolia as it was so dark and austere before. Now your mood lifts as you pull up to the front door!" Within, you enter a light hallway, with two rooms leading off to the front of the property; both benefitting from large bay windows that welcome the morning sun, but stay cool as the day goes on. "We use the sitting room as a quiet place for relaxation, and what was the dining room as a playroom when the children were younger, and now as a den." Rest and Relaxation A useful utility with butler sink, shelving, and space for washing machine, and tumble dryer leads off the kitchen and the corridor linking the main house and annexe is lovely and bright, with French windows with full length glazing either side leading directly out to the patio, and beyond these you discover the annexe. "We use the annexe in so many different ways, and it has been the perfect solution for me and my family. The children loved having sleepovers in the sitting room, as it made them feel quite independent and there is room a a couple to live comfortably here, or indeed a young adult not quite ready to leave the nest."

In terms of the main sleeping accommodation, you have four double rooms and a family bathroom on the first floor of what was once a bungalow, and there is scope for further accommodation above the annexe, "When the builders were here, they were excited to discover that the annexe loft space is a good head height, and they thought ideal for conversion." A garage provides further storage as does a rather large shed at the bottom of the garden; one that is very low-maintenance and bordered mainly by evergreens that give it shelter and the promise of totally privacy, "We're not overlooked at all. You can do whatever you fancy and feel totally relaxed here, and it's surprisingly quiet in the garden too, which is an added bonus, and with the pool and lots of places to sit and relax, it feels like you're on holiday!" The pool provides hours of pleasure, as does the hot tub and with a recreation ground just beyond the boundary, complete with tennis courts, the owner's grandchildren have had a fantastic eight years growing up here. As has she, "I love the location of this property, as I can walk to the local shopping centre 'The Vineyard', take a bus into the centre of Chelmsford or hop on train and head into London or elsewhere for a day out."
