Location
Steelfield Hall occupies an idyllic setting on the outskirts of Gosforth, the gateway to the beautiful Eskdale and Wasdale Valleys in the Lake District National Park. Wasdale valley is home to England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, and deepest lake, Wastwater. Gosforth offers a good range of amenities, including shops, an excellent nursery and primary school with more comprehensive amenities available in Seascale including rail links to Carlisle and Lancaster. The interesting town of Whitehaven is some 15 miles' distant with Cockermouth, the birthplace of Wordsworth, a little further afield.

Mains gas, electricity (separate electric meters), water and drainage. Gas central heating via two system boilers and four combi boilers installed (the combi boilers have their own separate meters). Single glazed throughout. Telephone line installed subject to BT regulations. Please note - the mention of any appliances and/or services within these particulars does not imply that they are in full and efficient working order.

Directions
From our Whitehaven PFK office, proceed out of the town centre via Inkerman Terrace, turning right at the traffic lights on to the A595. Continue on this road for approx. 14 miles, dropping down the hill as though heading into Gosforth village. Take a left turn shortly after through the sandstone pillars, past the row of terraced properties on the left where you will arrive at the entrance to Steelfield Hall

General
Steelfield Hall was built for Sir Henry Senhouse in 1830, with two additional wings being added later. In fact, in the attic, the cupola which streams light over the main stairwell still clearly has the initials/names of the workmen who constructed the house carved into the wooden support.

The hall contains a mix of periods and architectural styles. The later addition (dating from 1939) is of particular interest, being constructed externally in a Georgian style but with an oak panelled interior and imposing Portland Stone fireplace in a Baronial style popular in the period directly before the second world war.

The house has led a rather mixed life over the past 172 years, having passed from the Senhouse family to the Wrigley family in the middle part of the nineteenth century, where is remained in that same family for 100 years being sold again in the 1950s. Since then the hall has had various uses, being at one point a restaurant, a bed and brea...
