The Story

IMMACULATE INTERIOR
Although the house, which has solar panels, had been completed to a high standard, the couple decided to make a few changes to suit their own style of living.
“We took down a wall between the kitchen and dining room to create one large space for cooking and dining, and we had a new kitchen fitted in a sage shaker style,” he explains. “We also had a new bathroom suite installed and we redecorated; in the bathroom, hallway and kitchen we had new engineered oak laid.”
Everything was carefully considered, he explains: “There is wood on the floor in the dining area while the kitchen has mosaic-style, quarry tiles but the two sit beautifully together and have been laid seamlessly.”

FLEXIBLE LAYOUT
The arrangement of rooms offers great flexibility for either family living or for those who enjoy entertaining guests.
“This is a four-bedroom house, with two bedrooms upstairs and two down,” he says. “It gives us the option of choosing where we sleep.”
Rooms downstairs can become extra living space. Families can separate adults and teenagers or differentiate between guest and family sleeping space.
“It is very easy to accommodate extra people here,” he points out. “Not only because we have lots of room inside but also because we can park up to four cars on our drive.”

SUMMER DAYS
When the weather is good, the doors from the drawing room on to the pretty garden are kept open to allow an easy flow between inside and out.
“We have had a real slate terrace laid, which pretty much goes from one side of the house to the other, and is about 3m deep – it is perfect for outside entertaining. We also have a pergola, with slate chips underneath. It is a nice garden: we have raised beds and an apple tree, with fruit that ripens towards the end of the summer and beginning of autumn,” he adds.

EXCEPTIONAL POSITION
Set on the edge of Milton Keynes, Westcroft enjoys good access to the countryside and the centre of town, with all its amenities and leisure facilities.
“It is just a 10-minute drive into the centre, where you have everything you need – but we do also have local shops here, including independent coffee shops and a major food retailer.”
The main railway station in Milton Keynes is just over two and a half miles away and offers services into London which take about 40 minutes. Bletchley Railway Station is just four miles away and Luton Airport takes about 35 minutes to reach by car.
“It is very easy to travel from here,” he says. “You can pick up the M1 to go south or north and the A421, which is the main artery between Oxford and Cambridge.”

DAYS OUT
For afternoons out, Furzton Lake is within easy reach: this is home to many geese and other waterfowl and is a beautiful setting for a walk, cycle ride or picnic.
Willen Lake is only eight minutes by car; Snelshall Priory, which was a Benedictine priory, is within easy reach, and so is Howe Park Wood, which dates back to Medieval times.
“This is a great place to live,” he adds. “It is a tranquil cul-de-sac yet you have access to everything you need. There is also a nice community feel here, with street parties, summer gatherings and bonfire nights on occasion. If you want to be involved, there is plenty to do but if you want to have privacy then you can enjoy a very quiet life.”

Setting the scene
