Tenure: Freehold

Prime Castle Cary - a sumptuous period house with lovely proportions and a part walled garden, plenty of parking and outbuildings, tucked away with a southerly aspect within short walking distance of the towns facilities.

Pie Corner is a handsome and atmospheric old house with well proportioned rooms and good ceiling heights. It was renovated in around 2004. Works included an overhaul of all installations, installation of sealed unit double glazing, three new bathrooms on the first floor, extension and re-fit to the kitchen, overhaul of the outbuildings, and improvements to the exterior and garden. Although the house stands within the conservation area, it is not listed. On the ground floor, a lovely solid oak door opens to an impressive reception hall with staircase, columns and arches. To the back of the hall is a cloakroom. The sitting room has a handsome Cary Stone fire place with flame effect gas fire and flagstone hearth flanked by built in cupboards and bookcases. An extended kitchen is now open plan with the dining room, with timber floor, fire place with gas fire, and an extensive range of floor standing and eye level cupboards including twin sinks and two oven aga. The kitchen enjoys a lovely outlook over the garden. The rear wing of the house contains, what has more recently been used as a large ground floor bedroom with fitted wardrobes, and a door direct to the garden. This room is readily useable as a study or second reception room. Adjacent to the bedroom is an excellent wet room, with level access shower, WC and wash hand basin. A utility room completes the ground floor.

On the first floor, the two main double rooms both have ensuite bathrooms, and one has direct access to a sun deck with steps down the garden. There are three other bedrooms served by a recently refurbished shower room. A door and staircase from one of the small bedrooms leads up to a useful attic, ideal for storage. A characteristic of the interior is plenty of storage and cupboards, with most of the bedrooms having fitted or built in wardrobes.

Five bar gates open to part brick and part gravel surface parking and turning area for several cars. Along one side is an excellent range of outbuildings providing a two bay open fronted garage, an enclosed garage with roller door, and an excellent workshop with good natural light, excellent head height, light and power. The garden is partly walled, colourful and secluded. It comprises a lawn shaped by colourful borders, focus on an oak and birch tree pair. To one side, a paved gin and tonic spot and tool store. There is additional storage in the boiler room.

Bailey Hill is a quiet enclave just off Castle Cary Town Centre. The house stands at the top looking out to the south over the roof tops of Castle Cary to farmland beyond. Bailey Hill comprises handsome period Town Houses, together with the Post Office, all focused on an unusual domed structure right in the middle, which was built in the late 18 Century as a temporary jail house. In itself something of a land mark. The historic and thriving High Street and Town Centre area provides a good range of shops including a supermarket and banks. The Town also has schooling for all ages, a library, churches, pubs, restaurant and a filling station. The Town is surrounded by rolling countryside, and is extremely well placed for communications to the nearby towns including Bruton, Gillingham, Shaftesbury and the Abbey Town of Sherborne. The A303 can be joined just to the south at Wincanton which provides good access to London and the Home Counties via the M3 and M25. Castle Cary has a main line railway station on its outskirts, connecting with London Paddington (about 1 and a half hours). It also connects with the cultural centre of Bath. Templecombe has mainline railway station connecting with Waterloo. Castle Cary is well placed to access many of the areas best known independent schools, including Millfield, Kings Bruton, Hazelgrove, Port Regis and Sherborne.
