Shaw Court is set at the end of an avenue of lime trees; the main drive to a set of three properties (Shaw Court, Shaw Grange and Shaw House) originally built in 1711 by a wealthy wool merchant. At the end of the lime avenue, a grand entrance with electric gates leads right, into Shaw Court, a property that offers an enticing mix of security, seclusion and space.
The property is constructed of wisteria clad honey coloured limestone elevations under a steep pitched Cotswold stone tiled roof. Subsequent additions over more recent years include the indoor swimming pool at one end of the property, having a vaulted ceiling and doors opening into the garden. The accommodation offers grand proportions, high ceilings throughout, and period features that include open fireplaces and stone mullion windows. The electric gates open onto a sweeping driveway lined with lighting that leads around to the triple bay garaging, all with light and power and a large parking area to the front. Immediately in front of the house is a flagstone terrace with ornamental pond that leads down to a formal garden enclosed on one side with an attractive stone barn (25' X 16') covered in wisteria and honeysuckle. The gardens lead onto a meadow garden that sweeps around the property, at one end having a two bedroom cottage and the other a private garden, perfect for children.
Shaw is a medium sized village that offers a thriving community centred around Shaw Village Hall, Shaw School and playing fields. The market town of Melksham (approx 1.6 miles away) offers excellent recreational facilities including a gym, swimming pool and sports centre along with a range of pubs, a busy shopping centre and a beautiful parish church. Melksham has a wide range of supermarkets including a recently opened Waitrose. Melksham station, which is in walking distance, has 18 trains a day with connecting services to London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads. Its position 10 miles south of junction 17 of the M4 on the A350 provides an excellent centre to explore nearby Lacock and Avebury and the attractive towns of Devizes, Bradford on Avon (approx 7 miles, with rail services to London Waterloo and Bristol Temple Meads) and the City of Bath (approx 11 miles, with rail services to London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads). Bristol International Airport is approximately 30 miles North West. There are various schools nearby in both the state and private sectors, including Stonar, St Mary's Calne and Warminster School.
From Bath, proceed east on the A4 London Road. At Box, take the right hand fork and travel along the A365 towards Melksham. Go through the village of Atworth and continue into Shaw. As you leave the hamlet of Shaw, and after the Shaw Hotel on the right, you will see the entrance to Shaw Court on the right. Proceed along the lime avenue and the driveway to Shaw Court is on the right hand side behind electric gates.
