The Agricultural Land Classification of England & Wales shows the land as being classified as Grade 2. The soils are classified by the Soil Survey of England & Wales as Marcham which is described as being Jurassic Limestone, which is shallow well drained calcareous coarse and fine loamy soils over limestone associated with similar deeper soils, suitable for cereals, sugar beet and potatoes.

The land is scheduled by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Foods Provisional Land Classification plans as being Grade 2.
