We also had it copied and made smaller for upstairs," he says. "The colour scheme includes various shades of white and we have used materials such as marble and natural stone throughout the house."

FAMILY LIFE

The kitchen itself has a hand-painted, classic style. At its centre is a large island and breakfast bar. "We did not originally intend to have this installed but there was so much space after the extension work was carried out that it seemed a good idea: we are now really pleased that we did add it as the children love to sit up there to do their arts and crafts or to have something to eat." He adds: "We have also enjoyed having the drawing and entertainment room at the front of the house for playing pool or relaxing and watching a film on the cinema screen. It has been great for parties or if you want to be somewhere quiet."

AMAZING PARTIES

The ground floor of the house on The Ridgeway comprises an entrance hall leading to the drawing or games room, cinema room and ground floor cloakroom. "This is a huge area, which is where we pretty much do all our living," he says. "It is great for family life and for parties. My wife loves entertaining and this house is perfect for it, especially in the summer when we can open the bi-folding doors on to the garden to create one large area. We also have a speaker system for playing music throughout the house." And his wife adds: "This is a really beautiful space - we have had some amazing parties there, with over 100 guests."

BEAUTIFUL BEDROOMS

The kitchen opens on to the terrace and garden, where there is an outbuilding which has been wired for broadband and television, and has water. "The idea was to have this as an office but we tend to use it as a playhouse for children," he says. "It could have all sorts of uses, however, it could even be a room for an au pair." The first floor of the attractive home now features the luxurious family bathroom. There are also three double bedrooms, including one with an en suite shower room. The fourth bedroom is currently used as a dressing room. "Then on the top floor of the house we have the master bedroom, which has a lovely en suite shower room and Juliet balcony."

PERFECT PLACE

The Ridgeway is a peaceful place to live, according to the current owners. It offers good access to stations, with trains into London, as well as buses, shops, schools and restaurants. "We have a park opposite, which is great to take the children to, and we are within easy reach of Connaught Water and Epping Forest. This is a great place to live for commuting or for days out," he adds. "We hope to stay close by when we move but will miss the wonderful sense of space this house has when we leave."
