Built in the Arts and Crafts style typical of late 19th century, the property is one of three estate cottages originally belonging to a substantial detached residence known as Prior's Hatch, which was built for one of the masters at nearby Charterhouse when the school transferred from its original London site. The earliest part of The Bungalow, which is incredibly attractive and unique dates from 1898 and was originally a stable with hay-loft. In 1904, with the acquisition of motor cars, further accommodation was required for a chauffeur so what is now the main part of the house was added and the stable itself extended to garage vehicles.
