The Estate dates back over 700 years, when it was called 'Colemore'. In 1779 the property belonged to a Francis Shute of Ugborough, then it passed through various hands and was sold at auction in 1918 and when the house boasted 'electric light powered by 5.5 hp oil engine'. Some of the other features mentioned can still be seen today such as the large water wheel which powered the saw bench adjoining the carpenters shop and the walled fruit and vegetable garden, which is now one of the children's play areas.
