The Story

INVITING ATMOSPHERE
The detached, four-bedroom house dates back to 1976. It was built in stone and offers good family space.
“We liked the fact it seemed to offer flexible living,” says Laura. “There is a large open area in the middle of the house, where we have the kitchen and the dining room, and then there is the drawing room, which is cosy and inviting.”
Also on the ground floor is the family room, conservatory, utility room and cloakroom; there is also internal access to the garage. The four bedrooms and family bathroom are all on the first floor; the master bedroom has a large en-suite shower room.
“I also remember thinking the whole house had a very nice atmosphere,” Paul adds.

MODERN AND CLASSIC
Since moving in, the couple have brought their own style to the house and modernised it with some additions.
“As well as the wood-burner, we have installed two new bathrooms and had a new kitchen put in. We also changed the conservatory into a garden room by giving it a proper roof and new double glazing: this is now a room we use all the time,” says Paul.
Laura adds: “We often have our breakfast in there in the morning and the children use it as a second sitting room when they are home.”
The house has been redecorated over the years, largely from a Farrow & Ball palette.
“We have tried to go for a classic style in much of the house but then the bathrooms are very contemporary, with travertine tiling and big walk-in showers.”

ENTERTAINING SPACE
The layout of the house has worked well for both family life and entertaining, according to the couple.
“This is a very nice party house: rooms flow nicely and there is space in the garden. There is room for children to play in one place and adults to sit and talk in another. A couple of Christmases ago we managed to seat 20 of us in the dining room and we did have an Olympics party here with about 90 guests.”

GREAT PLACE
The children were eight and four years old when the family moved to the Sherington house. They found it to be a safe area in which to bring them up and Leys View also had access to good schools.
“We are in a small cul-de-sac, with just six houses, and we have a nice mix of neighbours. The village, which has a lovely pub, is also a very friendly and welcoming place,” says Paul.
From the property there is good access to the market town of Olney, which is known for its range of independent shops, cafés and restaurants; Newport Pagnell is just over a mile away, and also has shops, pubs and restaurants.
“And, although we live in a village, we are just 15 minutes from Milton Keynes,” he adds.

BEST OF EVERYTHING
From the house it takes just five minutes to reach the M1 and then it is possible to travel either north or south very quickly. There are also fast trains from Milton Keynes into London.
“I have always found it very easy to travel for work,” says Paul. “We are lucky enough to have good transport links while also being close to beautiful countryside.”
At the weekends, the family have enjoyed spending time at Castle Ashby, Salcey Forest and Emberton Country Park.
“This is an easy place to live,” Laura says. “We have loved being in the area and have enjoyed having a home with space to enjoy with family and friends, as well as a room where we can light the fire, close the door and just relax.”

Setting The Scene

The house on Leys View is set back from the road, with a driveway providing parking for two to three cars. There is an integral garage.
The private garden is a major feature of the house. It is enclosed and offers a good level of privacy and is bordered with mature shrubs and trees. There is a sunny terrace, with plenty of room for outside dining, and a beautiful lawn, which wraps around the house.
