Introduction
Set in tranquil Bedfordshire countryside, Talltrees is a beautiful and mature, willow lined fishery extending to approximately 2.4 Acres (1.0 ha). Created in around 1880, this intimate lake offers the carp angler the chance to pit their wits in a paradise of nature.

Location
Talltrees is situated on the edge of Aspley Guise village, approximately 7 miles south east of Milton Keynes and 12 miles south west of Bedford. The fishery is located within easy access of the M1 (Junction 13 - 2 miles distant).

The Fishery
Originally three separate ponds excavated for clay to be used for brick production, the ponds were amalgamated into a single lake in around 1957.

The spring fed lake extends to approximately 1.4 acres (0.6 ha) with a total of 14 swims and depths of up to 9ft at the southern end. The tree lined lake is divided by a central island and is characterised by a large coverage of lily pads and overhanging trees.

The fishery came to prominence in the 1960's and 70's, with the late Richard Walker fishing for the many large perch for which Tall Trees had become well known. Carp were initially introduced during this period, with later introductions made by Kevin Maddocks and Heather Fisheries. Some of the original fish remain.

Fish Stocks
The lake was drained in 2010 and the silver fish removed. The stock comprises 115 carp between 10-40lbs, as well as tench and catfish to 60lbs.

Subsequent stockings took place in 2010 and 2011 to supplement the existing stock, with fish supplied by Heather Fisheries. Further information and a comprehensive stock list is available on the Talltrees website.

Facilities Building
There is a single storey, timber facilities building at the northern end of the site, used as a tackle shop. It also provides kitchen, reception and toilet facilities for the member's use.

The Business
The business is derived from a mixture of private hire income, syndicate income and tackle shop sales. The turnover for the year ending August 2016 was 22,000.

Prices
Current syndicate prices are 160 p.a. fishing Sunday evening until Thursday evening. Weekend bookings for the whole lake are 280 for a maximum of six persons.

Planning
Ref: CB/12/00302/FULL Planning permission was granted on 21.06.12 for the erection of a single storey, 5 bedroom fishing lodge. The permission contains the following condition:
"The building hereby permitted shall not be occupied at any time other than as a tourist and leisure facility in associated with the adjoining fishing lake and not for permanent use as a dwelling or dwellings. The fishing lodge will be removed upon the cessation of the use of the fishing lake for leisure purposes."
