SUMPTUOUS ACCOMMODATION
Built in 1988, the gated property is unique, she points out. It was originally a luxury, self-build home, designed to offer sumptuous living within desirable Willen.
With accommodation all on one level, it offers great flexibility, and, with large rooms and lots of windows, it is very light. “There is not another house like it that I am aware of,” she says.
Since moving in she has given the property a few touches of her own: upgrading the en suite bathroom to the master bedroom, and tiling the family bathroom.
“The whole house is lovely now – it is beautiful; I absolutely love it,” she says.

BRIGHT SPACES
The sizeable property is well-designed with living accommodation at one end and bathroom and sleeping space at the other. The enormous drawing and family room, with its vaulted ceiling, is very much at the heart of the home. This leads through into the conservatory and the study. The conservatory then opens on to the garden. “The drawing room is so lovely and bright,” she says. “Just off it is a wonderful fireplace area, which is a gorgeous place to sit and relax in the winter.” The kitchen breakfast room has plenty of space for a dining table, as well as a central island and breakfast bar. There is also a utility room and cloakroom at this end of the house.

GARDEN VIEWS
The sleeping quarters currently comprise the family bathroom and four bedrooms, including the master bedroom, with its en suite shower room.
“The master bedroom has double doors out on to a little terrace, where we have a bistro table and chairs, and where it is lovely to sit out on a summer’s morning with a cup of coffee,” she says. “The gardens here are totally secluded as they wrap right around the house. Every window you look out of has a garden view.” Over the past eight years she has enhanced the already mature garden with a few plantings of her own – and she has also had a hot tub installed. “This is a gorgeous place to be at night when all the lights are on,” she adds. “Even on a cold, snowy day it’s nice to sit out there in the steaming water!”

NEAR THE LAKE
The garden is a suntrap, which offers a choice of places to sit out and soak up the warmth. When the weather is fine, however, she also enjoys strolling over to Willen Lake.
Here, the north lake is a wild-life sanctuary and a favourite of migrating aquatic birds, while on the island goats graze the vegetation. The south lake offers has leisure facilities and there is often something going on to watch out on the water.
“We also have great local amenities here, including shops, a pharmacy, doctor’s surgery and pub – anything you want you can get,” she points out. “Central Milton Keynes is only 10 minutes away, however, and you can get to the station in about the same time and from there it is only 35 minutes into London Euston.”

MAGIC MOMENT
Portland Drive seems to be a popular place with its residents, she suggests.
“My next-door-neighbours used to be my next-door-neighbours but one!” she says. “This must be a nice area because they were so keen to stay.”
She still remembers the first time she visited the property and acknowledges there was a moment she will never forget.
“I stood in the hallway and turned right, and looked into the drawing room; then I turned left and looked into the kitchen,” she recalls. “Both rooms had vaulted ceilings and were filled with light, and I knew that at that moment the house was already sold to me – everything else that came with it was just a bonus.”

Setting The Scene

The property on Portland feels very safe and secure, says the current owner. It is accessed via an automated, keypad operated wrought iron gate. Turn off the M1 at junction 14 and take A509 towards Milton Keynes. Then take the third exit at the roundabout and again at the next roundabout. Travel along Tongwell Street and go left at the roundabout onto Dansteed Way. Then take the first exit on your left onto Millington Gate and then turn right at the roundabout you come to and house will be on your left hand side.
