Full description

A very well presented modern country house with beautiful gardens and paddock beside a tributary of The River Allen

The Hollow is a rather intriguing modern country house in a perfect rural setting. Originally built in the early 1990’s, the present owner has cleverly extended and remodelled the house to create a superb home with a fabulous interior arranged to take full advantage of the beautiful gardens and lovely rural outlook. The accommodation is attractively presented and now comprises a striking full height drawing room with a fireplace and wood burning stove, a 30ft long kitchen come family dining room with stone floors, a contemporary wood burner and bi-fold doors opening out to the gardens, a study or 4th bedroom and separate utility room. Upstairs there is a fabulous master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and double doors opening onto large balcony which has a stunning view to the west, into the lovely countryside surrounding the house. Two further bedrooms and a family shower room complete the accommodation, although the office attached to the side of the house could easily be converted (subject to planning permission) to provide more reception or bedroom accommodation, or even a small annexe. The whole property has been well maintained and the combination of modern oil fired heating, efficient wood burning stoves and high levels of insulation make it a very easy and economical house to manage, and a lovely base from where you can enjoy the picturesque and unspoilt countryside in this part of north Dorset.

A wide tarmac drive leads from the lane up to a set of double gates which open into a large gravel courtyard in front of the house with plenty of parking. Beyond the courtyard there are beautiful gardens surrounding the house on three sides and a pony paddock running down to the river. On the east side, there are imaginatively designed and beautifully stocked borders along with a large well-kept kitchen garden. From here a large lawn interspersed with fruit trees, other specimen trees and shrubs sweeps around the house to the west side where there is a ha-ha on the boundary with the paddock which lies beyond the garden. Immediately behind the house, with access from the drawing room and the family room there is a large paved terrace and also a balcony, both of which enjoy a fine view west across the garden and the paddock into the countryside beyond.

The hamlet of Bowerswaine is situated a short distance from Gussage All Saints, a popular and thriving village on the eastern edge of Cranborne Chase and surrounded by the distinctive rolling countryside of north Dorset, which is designated as an Area of of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Although the three Gussage villages (All Saints, St Michael and St Andrews) are very rural they are by no means isolated and there is a busy and thriving village community. Gussage All Saints has a popular pub The Drovers Inn, there is a village shop and post office in Chettle and the well-known Long Crichel bakery is nearby. Blandford Forum is only a short drive away by car and has a good range of shops and other amenities, and for a wider range of amenities Salisbury is within half an hour's drive to the east. Communication links from the village are also good, there is a main line railway station in Salisbury with fast regular trains to London Waterloo, the business centres along the south coast, Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch are within an hour's drive, and from there you can also link via the A31 onto the M27 and M3 to drive to London and to Southampton and Bournemouth airports.
