The subject site is situated on Green Belt land outside the Alvechurch Village Conservation Area. It is surrounded on 3 sides by development (Residential, Commercial and Cricket Club). The site has been included in the Bromsgrove Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment. This document identifies sites with future housing potential. No.2 Birmingham Road, to the front of the site, has the benefit of a change of use to residential for 5 apartments (Ref. 12/0251 Planning Application Details - 12/0251). The Neighbourhood Plan sets out the need in the area Alvechurch Neighbourhood Plan.

An application was submitted for "Demolition of existing buildings and creation of new access road, erection of 35 no. retirement living housing, including resurfacing of the existing club car park, 15 public car parking spaces and emergency vehicle access point" (Ref. 14/0952). However, this was withdrawn pending the conclusion of Green Belt Review by Bromsgrove District Council.
