Location 
Milburn is located in the wonderful east Cumbrian countryside between the Eden valley and the Pennines, a classic example of a medieval fortified village, with sandstone houses arranged around a 4.5 acre rectangular Green. The Green was only open at its four corners making it easy for defensive purposes. It has been used as common land for centuries and many residents still have their grazing rights. There is a forty foot maypole on the Green which is believed to have been erected on an ancient celtic burial site.
