Fourways was built in about 1924 for the Horton family, at the time probably the largest house in Peacehaven. They lived there until 1945 except for a short break in the 2nd World War when it was requisitioned by the War Department for French Canadian Paratroopers. When the Hortons returned they provided a home for some of the many London evacuees that were sent to the area. In 1956 Mr & Mrs Martin bought Fourways and introduced residents with special needs. 1986 bought by the present owners to run what has proved to be a very successful and popular dual registered nursing/residential care home; concentrating on continuing care, many of the patients coming from The Martletts Hospice, hospitals and local doctors. The house was enlarged in 1990 to provide extra rooms and facilities and now accommodates 19 nursing/residential clients.
