Cublington 
The earliest mention of Cublington is in the Domesday Book, the great volume produced by William the Conqueror in 1086 so that he could find out how much his new territory of England was worth. Cublington is known to have had an “Old Village Site” which is still visible. It lies in the field at the end of Ridings Way and has a footpath running through it. The old village is dominated by a mound called the Beacon, but actually the site of a small castle, probably built about 1100. It is also recorded that on 23rd July 1552, Cublington Parish Church was one of only two churches in the country to have a clock. During the Second World War, the bomber base was built in Cublington and the Army were often there on manoeuvres.
