Location

Ashburton is a popular and thriving moorland town, situated on the south eastern edge of Dartmoor National Park. In the town there is an excellent selection of local amenities, including shops, restaurants, pubs and cookery school, as well as primary school and secondary education, with Ashburton Community College. Dartmoor is renowned for its spectacular scenery with its granite tors, heather clad moorland and wooded valleys bisected by rushing streams and rivers and close by is the stunningly beautiful River Dart valley, winding its way down from the moor through the wooded valleys and on, via Totnes, to the Dart Estuary. Locally there are many and varied opportunities for walking, riding and fishing. To the south is the beautiful South Hams area of South Devon, with its rolling countryside and pretty villages and best known for its wonderful coastline, with its beaches, estuaries and coastal walks and including such well known centres as Dartmouth and Salcombe, with their facilities for sailing.

Communications

Ashburton is situated beside the A38 dual carriageway, leading west to the city of Plymouth, from where there are ferries to the Continent, or east to the University and Cathedral city of Exeter, where there is access onto the M5 motorway, railway stations with mainline connections to London and an international airport. Also within easy reach, at Newton Abbot, there is a railway station with mainline connections to Exeter and London.
