Full description

The area needs little introduction; Ideally situated at the heart of the Jurassic Coast, wonderful rolling countryside meets the sea with beautiful coast roads, villages tucked into the folds of the land, beaches and harbours. It's no wonder it's a mecca for holiday makers. There is business here too and increasingly Weymouth and Dorchester are working together economically creating a stronger underlying economic base beyond tourism and agriculture. The Lugger Inn is a traditional village pub with a locals' bar, restaurant, function room/skittle alley, beer garden and 14 letting bedrooms and with so much going on what's not to like?

Weymouth is famous as one of the South coast's most popular holiday destinations, with it's wonderful bay, historic harbour and history stretching back to the Romans. Of course it's also world renowned as the sailing venue for the 2012 Olympics. Chickerell is on the western edge of Weymouth and has a population of around 5,500, growing with new housing being added just behind the Lugger providing yet more business. It was originally a fishing village on Dorset′s spectacular coastline which makes up part of England′s first natural World Heritage site, The Jurassic Coast. Chickerell is now a commuter area convenient for both Weymouth and Dorchester all of which provides sources of revenue for The Lugger.

Our clients bought The Lugger in 2010 having run businesses in the Weymouth area for many years, but now its time to retire. The balance of tourism and commercial guests and in particular local trade has suited them very well as being part of the community was an important reason for buying The Lugger to begin with. Chickerell has a strong sense of village life with plenty of local activities including football club, horse riding stables, golf, youth club, and walkers and running clubs to name but a few. With so much to see and do it's a place to live, not just to work.

THE PROPERTY

Although it was refurbished and extended in 2004 the Lugger is believed to date back around 200 years. It is laid out on two floors under a pitched tiled roof.

PUBLIC AREAS

The Lugger retains much of its traditional character with quarry stone floor and the walls are adorned with local artefacts and pictures of fishing scenes in The Bar ( 28) which has a pool table and plenty of space. The recently refurbished Restaurant has 36 covers and the newly decorated Cottage Suite is available for weddings, parties, anniversaries, and Christenings, as well as for meetings and conferences. The Cottage Suite can be converted into a skittle alley and hosts the self-service Sunday Carvery which is very popular. A very neat carvery section adjoining the kitchen makes no impact on the room when not in use. There is also a large beer garden with tables and benches.

LETTING BEDROOMS

14 letting bedrooms to sleep 35 (9 Double or twin, 5 Family). Each room is en suite, seven with shower including one wet room (disabled room), three with spa baths, and four with bath and shower. Each room has central heating, Satellite TV, tea and coffee making facilities and Wi-Fi.

There is a good one bedroom flat on site, currently occupied by a member of staff.
