Saffron Walden is an historic market town with a magnificent Parish Church, numerous period properties and a wide tree-lined High Street. An extensive range of shops, schools, social and sporting amenities are all accessible within the town and the Golf Course and Sports Centre lie on the town's outskirts. Road links to London and Cambridge (16 miles) are accessible at Junctions 8 and 9 of the M11. Train services to London (Liverpool Street - 57 mins) run from Audley End Station about 2 miles away.

DOLPHIN HOUSE Mike Hibbs of Hibbs & Walsh states:
Dolphin House has a surprisingly well preserved timber frame dating back to the 16th Century. It appears to have had two major 'makeovers' over the years; the first in the 1700's when it was re-fronted, and then again in the early 20th century in an Arts and Crafts influenced style, and yet the original fabric is still visibly present. The house retains a sense of grandeur surprising for its scale and location, both in the opulence of the pargetted façade to the street and in the simple proportions of the first floor back bedroom.

No. 6 Gold Street is included in Nikolaus Pevsner's "Buildings of England - Essex" page 308 . Additionally, his collaborator Alec Clifton-Taylor published a book in 1981 in which 6 Gold Street is both mentioned and photographed (see extract).
