The Story

MEANT TO BE
Looking back, the couple are clear about what made Waterside
House so desirable.
“It had all just been redecorated and amazingly enough it suited our
colour scheme perfectly,” she points out. “All our furniture and
furnishings fitted in beautifully. It was as if it was meant for us.”
The property had a traditional style, with features such as leaded
windows and a brick inglenook fireplace.
“My brother-in-law said it reminded him of an old-fashioned pub,
which I quite liked,” says Ken. “It also had a very private garden,
where we knew we could sit out in the sunshine in the summer to
have our elevenses.”
The position of Waterside House was also a major attraction. Set
on a quiet cul-de-sac in the middle of seven houses, it overlooks a
charming pond, surrounded by trees.
“It looked so pretty that we fell in love with it immediately,” they add.
ENHANCING THE HOME
The ground floor of the house features good reception space. This
includes a drawing room, family room and dining room, which leads
throughout into the kitchen.
“We took the wall down between the kitchen and dining room,”
explains Lynne. “This has given us one lovely big open space.”
Other work saw them add a new en suite bathroom, with a power
shower and sensor LED light mirror. They also tiled the entrance
hall and kitchen dining room for low maintenance.
“We redecorated everywhere apart from the shower room in Dulux
Coastal Glow, which is a neutral shade that suits the house well,”
Ken says.
OUTSTANDING SUITE
The property offers great flexibility. The family room could quiet
easily become a study, playroom or formal dining room if
necessary. The drawing room and kitchen dining room lead out on
to the private rear garden.
The first floor of Waterside House has been extended by previous
owners over the double garage to create a wonderful master suite;
this comprises a large dressing room, bedroom area with balcony,
and en suite shower room. There are four double bedrooms in total
and a family bathroom.
“I like to go up to the master bedroom to chill out as it is such a
lovely room,” says Ken. “The problem was that I couldn’t hear Lynne
if she called me so now she rings a bell if she wants my attention!”
SPECIAL PLACE
The layout of the house has worked perfectly for them over the last
16 years.
“I love everything about it but especially the kitchen dining room,”
Lynne admits. “It is ideal for when you are entertaining as you can
chat to the people in the rest of the room and still feel part of the
celebrations.”
The couple have also enjoyed having the balcony which comes off
the master bedroom.
“In the summer we can sit out there and have breakfast or a cup of
coffee and look out over the garden – it is really quite a special
place,” Ken adds.
PEACEFUL SETTING
Lynne and Ken have enjoyed sharing their home with friends and
family. They often welcome weekend guests from other parts of
the country and have celebrated their wedding anniversary at the
house.
They have, however, also relished the quiet time the house has
afforded them, especially the walks to North Willen Lake, with its
wildlife and Peace Pagoda, and to delightful Woughton on the
Green.
The area has always felt very safe, Ken says.

Whats Nearby

Willen itself offers multiple leisure activities, local shops, pubs and
restaurants. Within minutes we can be strolling round the lake with
its attractive peace pagoda, cycling further afield with a picnic to
explore the Ouzel Valley or following the meandering towpath of
the Grand Union Canal and its passing barges. The north lake is a
wildlife sanctuary and a favourite of migrating aquatic birds, while on
the island goats graze the vegetation. The south lake offers year
round attraction from power boat racing and dragon boat racing to
wake boarding and amusement areas. The centre of Milton Keynes
is just a couple of minutes drive and offers everything a family needs
with bags of leisure activates for all ages, one of Britain’s largest
shopping areas, plenty of bars and restaurants and much
more

Within Easy Reach

The property is at a five minute walk to the picturesque Willen Lake
and Peace Pagoda and 5 minutes by car to Willen’s leisure and water
sports facilities. Central Milton Keynes is approximately 3 miles from
Willen. In the centre of Milton Keynes there is a train station where
you can travel to London within 30 minutes, ideal for commuters.
The M1 is also easily accessible within a few miles.

At Junction 14 take the A509 towards Milton Keynes and at the roundabout take the third exit on to the A509. At the next roundabout take
the 3rd exit onto the V11 Tongwell Street, continue for approximately 300 yards and turn left onto Carleton Gate in Willen and then right at
the T junction onto Aldrich Drive, Southfield Close will then be your first road on the left.
