Tenure: Freehold

Waking up to the sight of swans floating by and ending the day watching the boats over a glass of wine beside the canal - the new owners of the three-storey home on Kingsmill Way will enjoy a luxurious waterside lifestyle. The contemporary house was built beside the Grand Union Canal and designed to capture picturesque views out across the water from most of its rooms. "The house was in the final stages of completion when we first saw it four years ago and we were very impressed by the style of the property itself and the standard of the private, gated development, as well as the canal-side location," the current owner says. "This is a lovely place to live: you can wander around, enjoying the attractive scenery and the features of the development itself, which is very well lit, whenever you like. The whole area has been beautifully designed and makes the most of its superb setting beside the canal."

BRIGHT INTERIOR

The large house was well designed for family living, he also recalls. "It offered bright airy space across all three floors," he says. After moving in, the owners enhanced the house with a few touches of their own. These included installing air conditioning throughout the house and carrying out sumptuous marblework in some of the bathrooms. The property has also been well maintained to ensure high levels of comfort as well as style. "Everything has been completed to a very high standard," he observes. "The bright, neutral backdrop allows furniture and furnishings in different styles and colours to sit well within the rooms - this house could suit all sorts of people, whatever their individual tastes."

CALM AMBIENCE

The spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and family room encompasses much of the ground floor. There is also an entrance hall, cloakroom and utility room at this level. The kitchen, dining and family room has views to both the front and back of the property. To the rear, there are bi-folding doors out on to the garden and canal. "This makes it ideal for family living and entertaining," he says. The chic contemporary kitchen area includes dark units, white work surfaces and a large central island. At one end of the room, there is space for a dining table and chairs - at the other, a zone for comfortable seating. "In the summer, the doors can be left open, enhancing that calm feel," he adds. "When my mother stayed she used to enjoy walking out there to feed the swans."

STUNNING MASTER BEDROOM

Three of the bedrooms are located on the second floor, where two have canal views. One of these guest bedrooms also benefits from an en suite shower room. There is a family bathroom and landing at this level too. "The second floor of the property is probably our favourite place in the whole house. There is a magnificent master bedroom, with bi-folding doors out on to a roof terrace and with a huge en suite bathroom, which almost takes up half of the floor area. This all comes together to create a particularly beautiful master bedroom."

COUNTRY LIVING

The garden was always beautifully kept by the owners and gave them great joy throughout the year. Its location beside the canal meant they could head off on the water whenever they chose. "Being able to launch a canoe or paddle boat from your own garden is a real pleasure," he admits. "You can also take a stroll by the canal from your own home or a saunter through the countryside, while all the time living in a location which is also extremely convenient." For an afternoon out, Denham Country Park is a tranquil place to visit. With a total of 69 acres, it has links to local footpaths, bridleways and the South Bucks Long Distance Route. It is home to a variety of wildlife and can be explored on foot.

SUPERB LOCATION

New Denham is well located between the pretty village of Denham and bustling Uxbridge. This is a popular area for those who wish to work in London, but to live somewhere quieter. "We always found it very easy to get into the centre of Uxbridge and to London itself," he recalls. "Although it is a quiet location it is well positioned for access to the A40 and the M25," he says. "The house is within easy reach of the golf club and a number of beautiful houses to visit and yet everything you need is close by. I think we were the happiest we have ever been when we lived here - it was calm and sophisticated, and yet it was also 'home sweet home.'"
