The Story

THE GLORIOUS PAST
Certainly, with its impressive façade, original, enormous sash windows, wrought iron detailing and colonial-style veranda, Wick Hill House still embodies an abundance of grandeur and a wealth of history. Occupying almost all of the ground floor, the apartment itself enticed her with its excellent space and superb original features.
"It had spacious rooms, with high ceilings and the whole place was filled with light because of the sash windows. There was an original marble fireplace in the drawing and dining room, which has a rather nice coal-effect fire in," she says.
Other character features include the likes of beautiful cornicing, polished floorboards still present under the carpets and shutters.

TEA ON THE TERRACE
What also makes the property truly appealing, however, is the outside space it offers. The courtyard in particular has been a great joy to the current owner.
"The beautiful veranda does come with this apartment and certainly the new owners could sit out there to enjoy a cup of tea or some lunch," she says. "Personally, I prefer the private courtyard or terrace garden, which faces west and is filled with sunshine in the afternoon and evening. It is wonderful for relaxing quietly or entertaining friends and family."

GOOD PROPORTIONS
Since moving into the property three years ago, the current owners has improved the access on to the terrace. French windows from one of the bedrooms now open on to this private space.
"I have also redecorated everywhere and had the kitchen refurbished," she says. "This is an excellent space for working in: it is well laid-out, with plenty of storage and good room for food preparation."
Her favourite place, however, is probably the extremely generous drawing and dining room.
"This is a beautiful room, which is very impressive," she admits. "If you enjoy entertaining then it is very easy to accommodate guests at the dining table and on chairs and sofas."

GREAT FLEXIBILITY
There is ample space for accommodating overnight guests too at the Wick Hill House apartment. Comprising three bedrooms, it also includes a family shower room and en suite shower room to the master bedroom.
"It is officially a three-bedroom apartment but I have chosen to arrange one of the rooms as an office," she says. "This property does offer flexibility. The bedroom with the doors on to the terrace could make a wonderful dining room if someone chose."

TRANQUIL LOCATION
The communal gardens at Wick Hill House can be enjoyed by any residents wishing to sit out in the sunshine.
"This is a very tranquil setting, which seems to provide something of a micro-climate," she observes. "When you are sitting outside you have a sense of being in a rural area and yet everything you need is actually very accessible."
While Bracknell is good for high street shopping, Ascot and Windsor with their independent shops, cafés and restaurants are also within easy reach.
"There are lots of lovely little villages around here to visit too and those who enjoy walking are within very easy reach of Windsor Great Park," she adds. "There is plenty to do in this area and this house itself is a very peaceful and attractive place to live - and, of course, it also has an abundance of history."

Setting The Scene

Wick Hill House sits in well-maintained grounds. The apartment enjoys the benefit of private use of the whole veranda plus a small courtyard garden to the side of the building. There are further attractive communal gardens behind and there is a parking area to the front.
