Full description

A fabulous CHARACTER HOME with superb accommodation in a PRIME LOCATION on the EDGE OF TOWN.

Southfield must be one of the best mature family homes in Blandford. Built in the 1930’s, the house has belonged to the same family since the early 1970’s and in more recent times it has been cleverly redesigned and refurbished to create the superb family home you see today, which has a comfortable and modern feel but retains all of the quality and presence of the original 1930’s house. The original reception rooms work brilliantly alongside the fabulous new kitchen/family room (which is over 600 sq ft) and the separate study, useful utility rooms and cloakrooms. Upstairs the bedroom accommodation is excellent with 5 well-proportioned rooms and 3 smart modern bath/shower rooms. The generous master bedroom has a separate dressing area and shower room. Southfield is presented very elegantly and as part of the refurbishment it was rewired and replumbed, and a new central heating and hot water system was installed. All of this makes it a stylish and very comfortable family home which we are sure will appeal to everybody who visits.

The south facing gardens compliment the house beautifully, and must be amongst the largest and most private gardens in this part of town. The house itself is set well back from the road behind a tall hedge and a wide paved forecourt with plenty of parking and turning space. From here a path leads across the lawn to the front entrance porch, which is on the east side of the house, the day to day entrance being off the forecourt at the side of the house. The original layout of the gardens, with formal box hedges and rose beds, has been retained but simplified for easy maintenance and the large lawns are thoughtfully interspersed with well planted herbaceous borders, mature shrubs and fine specimen trees. Immediately behind the house there is a large paved terrace which is in the sun all day and enjoys the views across the garden.

At present, there are no garages at Southfield but there is plenty of space to build garages immediately off the drive subject to obtaining the necessary planning consent. There are useful garden stores situated behind the house and in the garden.

Southfield is well situated off Milldown Road, one of the most prestigious addresses in Blandford Forum. It is conveniently close to all the services and amenities in this pretty Georgian market town, and yet only a brisk walk or short drive from the beautiful countryside that this part of Dorset is famed for. Although Blandford is located in the heart of rural Dorset, communication links are excellent and it is only a short distance north of the Poole Bournemouth Christchurch conurbation, which makes the town hugely convenient for people who work in that area. Commuting is straight forward, and easy access onto the A31 also provides a quick link to the M27 for Southampton and Portsmouth, and the M3 up to London. Bournemouth and Southampton airports are easily accessible as are the ferry ports at Poole, Southampton and Portsmouth. Bournemouth and Gillingham stations both have fast regular train services to London Waterloo.

The area around Blandford is very well served with good local schools at all levels, and as well as a primary school and a state secondary school very nearby, popular private schools in the area include; Bryanston, Milton Abbey, Canford, Clayesmore and Sherborne and prep schools at Castle Court, Dumpton, Knighton House and Sandroyd. There are also many good opportunities for sport and recreation in this area with excellent walking, riding and cycling country all around, numerous good golf courses and renowned shooting and fishing. There are plenty of other sports clubs in and around the town, and great opportunities for water sports in Poole harbour and along the south coast with is less than an hour’s drive away.
