Full description

Tenure: Freehold

The oldest part of The Old Vicarage is believed to date back to 1680, but it was remodelled in 1736 by Reverend William Withers, vicar of Tunstall at that time. He introduced the classical symmetry of a central hall with a staircase behind it, four rooms, four bedrooms on the first floor and attics above. A date stone sits high on the front elevation inscribed 1736 WW. The rear section was added in the 1930s and the present owners extended and converted outhouses in 2010 to incorporate into the main accommodation. It is a house of subtly different styles which link harmoniously together to provide a flow of reception rooms which lend themselves to modern family life.

Being Grade II Listed, there is tremendous character with period fireplaces, oak floors, working window shutters, panel doors and an elegant and graceful wide staircase. Three sets of French doors open out to garden terraces, which connect the house and garden providing and an inside/outside sociable flow.

The house sits well with an ample arrival courtyard for cars flanked by outhouses and the detached yard. The gardens are to the rear and side of the house with a long lawn screened by a high wall and mature trees. For those who like to run around, there is a tennis court with nets, and for those who prefer a gentle potter, a kitchen garden and orchard.
