The Story

SO SPACIOUS
White Pillars has been their home for some 26 years now. It was built by the previous owners, who were there for just five years before moving on. “We looked at so many houses before finding this one,” Rena explains. “The problem we had was that we wanted somewhere that would take our furniture very comfortably. As soon as we opened the front door to this house and looked through I knew we had found the right place.” Rooms on the ground floor were all a good size – and then the couple went upstairs to have a look. “We were impressed by the fact that all four bedrooms were double in size,” she says.

FAMILY DINING
Since moving into the Bracknell property, the Bunces have upgraded it further. “We also carried out an extension, which gave us a much larger kitchen,” she says. The kitchen is a generous area, which sits at the front of the house. It has been designed to offer plenty of work surface and unit space, as well as room for a family table for casual meals. The kitchen opens into the utility room, which is another good, practical area, as well as the dining room. “I do like to have a dedicated dining room, where we can seat friends and family. If all the family is round, it means we can have the adults around the dining table in there and the grandchildren in the kitchen – and we can still see each other.”

ELEGANT ROOM
Also on the ground floor, and adjoining the dining room, is the well-proportioned drawing room. This is elegant, with built-in shelving and a Louise XIV-style fireplace. At one end, there are French windows that open on to the terrace. “This is a great family home, with plenty of space for everyone when they are all here – our grandchildren love it and are so sad we are leaving. Everyone enjoys getting together here for a good karaoke and knowing we won’t disturb anyone because we are just surrounded by trees!”

SUNNY DAYS
The drawing room opens into the large conservatory, which has become something of a second sitting room. In the summer, Rena and Brian enjoy relaxing in here, with the doors to the garden open. “The conservatory is south-facing and is lovely and light,” she says. “We like to be in there or out in the garden as much as possible; it is wonderful because there are different places to sit and for the children to play.” On sunny days, they also like to head over to Windsor Great Park or Virginia Water for a walk. Windsor Great Park is a royal park of approximately 2,020 hectares, including a deer park. Virginia Water is within it and is a beautiful place to walk, run and watch the wildlife. The ornamental waterfall and 100ft totem pole are popular features.

GREAT LOCATION
The location of White Pillars offers access to lots of beauty spots, as well as to the motorway network, shops, schools and other amenities. “We are well connected, with the M3 and M4 easy to reach,” says Rena. “Yet where we are we can also get into town and we are very handy for Martins Heron Station for those needing to commute into London – and there is a bus stop close by, with buses into Bracknell.” She adds: “We made a very good choice when we bought this house – it offers us space and privacy and it feels well away from the busy town but, in reality, it is very simple to get to everything you need. Now that we are moving, I know we will miss everything about it.”

Setting The Scene

White Pillars offers off-road parking for two or three cars, together with a garage. To the rear of the house, there is a large, mature south-facing garden, which offers areas, of lawn and terrace. There is a barbecue area, which is ideal for entertaining. The garden is leafy and private. It has a brick built outbuilding, which has two rooms and could be used as a home office or for storage. There are also two wooden garden sheds.

Whats Nearby

Bracknell town centre offers many high street shops and there are numerous sporting facilities close by. Both the M3 and M4 motorways are easily accessible and the mainline railway station offers direct services to London Waterloo and Reading. Recreational facilities in the area are very well catered for and include some of the finest golf clubs in the world, along with a selection of health, leisure and tennis clubs, horse racing at nearby Ascot Racecourse, beautiful country walks in Windsor Great Park and you could even try your hand at polo with the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club or Guards Club, both of which are nearby.

Within Easy Reach

The local schooling is exceptional with many renowned private schools including Hall Grove, Woodcote, Papplewick, Sunningdale, St. Mary's, Heathfield, Hurst Lodge, St. George's, Coworth Park and The Marist together. In addition there is the American Community School and TASIS.
