Description

Marriotts is a charming Grade II listed village house of great character, having most appealing elevations of mellow red brick, knapped flint and render, under a tiled roof. The front elevation is in the classic Georgian style with sash windows, and the rear of the house has mostly leaded windows.
The present owner purchased Marriotts in 1972, and was advised that many architectural features and materials used in the house were reclaimed from period buildings demolished during the 1950s and 1960s. These include internal and external doors, ornate door locks and handles, fireplaces and grates, bricks and floor tiles. Whilst it is impossible to verify these details, they make fascinating reading, and we will be pleased to pass this information on to the new owner.
The house is approached via a handsome panelled front door, with an entrance portico supported by decorative carved corbels. The entrance hall has a quarry tiled floor and a pretty staircase with turned balusters, decorative mouldings and a hardwood handrail. The sitting room has an inglenook fireplace and former bread oven, and a flagstone floor, the dining room has a white marble fire surround with cast iron grate and tiled inset, and the garden room which is approached via double doors from the rear hallway, has leaded windows on two aspects and a door to the garden, there is a compact kitchen, separate utility room with a shower and a cloakroom. On the first floor are three bedrooms, all with south east facing sash windows and a family bathroom. On the second floor is a useful loft room ideal for storage or hobbies.

The house would now benefit from modernisation and redecoration.

Outside
Steps and an ornate wrought iron gate lead to the front door, with an established Wisteria at one side. The front garden is mostly paved with a variety of shrubs. A shingle driveway runs up the side of the house to the detached Garage with double doors, side window and door. The rear garden is a particular feature with a flagstone and brick terrace, a central stepped pathway with yew balls and lawns to either side, a wide herbaceous cottage border running across the rear, and a high beech hedge surrounding. There is a shed and utility area concealed behind a brick wall at one side.
