THE PROPERTY:
Built in the early 19th Century by the Praed family (after whom Praed St, London, on which Paddington Station sits, is named). This wonderful pair of attached houses was later sold to Dr Davy, nephew of one of Penzance's most famous sons, Sir Humphry Davy, and lived in by him, in one half, and his widowed daughter in the other. It has been stayed in by some well known visitors in the past, most notably, we are told, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the 1890's and Sir John Betjeman in the 1950's. Well kept by the current owner, the interior remains largely intact and original with panelled doors, coved ceilings, a beautiful elegant staircase with mahogany handrail, slate flagstone floor in the kitchen which still has its original cooking range, servants staircase and servant bells. Outside is an amazing garden. You cannot fail to be enchanted by the imaginative way it has been laid out, planted and maintained. There are hidden sitting areas, paths, and manicured areas complementing more natural settings, some with views across fields to the sea. It would be impossible for me to list everything it contains but it includes decridium, olives, maples, willow, camellias, rhododendrons, mimosas, wisteria, bottlebrush and many other delightful specimens. For anyone familiar with the area, you will understand if we describe the garden as a mini Trengwainton. We have tried to give an idea of what this fabulous period home has to offer through description and photos but nothing can compare to seeing it first hand so we strongly advise arranging a visit.

LOCATION:
Situated less than two miles to the north of Penzance, the historic village of Madron is home to the beautiful 15th Century Church of St Maddern and is a haven for walkers as it is surrounded by moorland, much of it on higher ground with spectacular views of Mounts Bay, St Michael's Mount and The Lizard on the south coast and the rugged splendour of the cliffs and the Atlantic ocean to the north. The village has a school, public house and historic church whilst the neighbouring village of Heamoor offers a bakers, general store and post office, fish and chip shop and pharmacy. Penzance itself has a more comprehensive range of commercial, educational and leisure facilities as well as a mainline rail link to London Paddington.
