There are numerous sporting opportunities such as shooting and stalking, as well as trout and salmon fishing on the regions numerous lochs and rivers. For golf enthusiasts there is a nine hole golf course in New Galloway, the championship course at Southerness on the Solway Coast, as well as several other courses in the nearby area. The Solway coast is popular with sailors and at both Kippford and Kirkcudbright moorings are available. Communications to the area are very good. There is a main line railway station in Dumfries and also Lockerbie providing excellent links to both the north and south. There are regular flights to other parts of the UK, Ireland and Continental Europe from Prestwick Airport 40 miles north. Glasgow and Edinburgh Airports miles are 70 and 102 miles respectively.
