It is near Selling village with mediaeval church, pub and cricket pitch and almost as close is Chilham the quintessential English village clustered round its castle with parkland landscaped by Capability Brown and familiar from many period films and Miss Marple episodes. The nearest town is Faversham, architecturally renowned for its streets of early timbered houses, creek with shops and restaurants and many Thames barges with russet sails. It is the oldest market town in Kent and the cobbled streets still filled with stalls on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, there are also guided tours round the Shepherd Neame brewery the oldest in England, making use of Kentish hops. The cathedral town of Canterbury is about twenty minutes drive, attending services in the great cathedral is a wonderful privilege, the choir being outstanding. For sea food and sea there is nearby Whitstable famed for its oysters, while The Sportsman at Seasalter has a Michelin star and was recently voted the best gastro pub in the uk. There are many lovely parks and gardens to visit with associated historic houses and castles Sissinghurst, Knole , Leeds Castle. The Oast dates from the 1890 s and consists of two spacious reception rooms with solid oak doors and three generous double bedrooms two with en suite baths and one a large shower room and a tower room with double and single beds. It was converted into a dwelling in about 1980 by a theatre set designer and has a most impressive staircase, fireplaces in marble and limestone, and fine wrought iron.
