East Cowes is a marina town located across from the main town of Cowes on the Isle of Wight separated by the river Medina, the floating bridge serves as crossing point from the two towns transporting foot and car passenger back and forth daily since 1849 when it was first constructed and originally powered by horses.
The town has an eclectic mixture of shops to explore as well as some small cafes, pubs and restaurants and is the main drop of point for the Red Funnel car ferry services located at the very front of the town.
In recent years the town has undergone some major developments bringing in a fresher look to the town and a brand new Waitrose store and other new businesses.
The towns most famous visitor and resident was Queen Victoria who built her summer home, Osborne House in East Cowes and was said to have quoted "It is impossible to imagine a prettier spot" . The house is now looked after by English Heritage who open the house and stunning gardens to the public for tours and events such as the Summer Show and the annual Victorian Christmas along with other great events through out the year. Another famous building in East Cowes in Norris Castle which although no longer opened to the public can be seen standing on the north-east point of East Cowes and was once visited by King George IV in 1819, and the future Queen Victoria with her mother the Duchess of Kent in 1831.
East Cowes is perfectly located close to the busy town of Cowes for an evening out and a short bus route from the main town of Newport which is great for a days shopping
