Ashford - a home close to Europe in the Garden of England!

The Kentish market town of Ashford, on the Great Stour river, is a thriving place with easy access to London, Canterbury, the surrounding attractive North Downs countryside and the coast. All that and within two hours you can be in Paris!

In 2005, the town was named as the fourth best place in England in which to live. This was largely thanks to its convenient transport links, including the Eurostar and M20, and low levels of crime and unemployment.

Property in Ashford tends to be new, predominantly built after the Second World War. However, some period properties still come up for sale or rent, including the occasional Victorian villa, especially in nearby villages. There tend to be more family homes available than one-bedroom flats.

House prices in Ashford remain affordable compared to the rest of Kent.

The town is growing rapidly, with around 800 new homes built every year, and property there tends to sell quickly. This growth looks set to continue in the future.

Despite its bustling, cosmopolitan atmosphere, Ashford still has plenty of quiet, rural charm. Windmills from the nineteenth century and medieval buildings sit alongside fashionable restaurants and modern shops.

It also remains an agricultural market town, and still hosts a regular market.

Haven for shopaholics

If you like your retail therapy, you'll love Ashford, which has three shopping centres, alongside the pedestrianised areas of Bank Street and High Street. Also have a browse of the bargains at the nearby designer outlet centre.

Well educated

There are around 20 primary and half a dozen secondary schools in the town, including two grammar schools, as well as a couple of further education colleges. Several of the secondary schools also have a sixth form.

A transport hub

Ashford is also known as one of England's most significant transport hubs.

There's the A20 from London to the Channel ports in the area, along with the A28 from Margate to Hastings. The A251 provides a link with Faversham and the M2, the A2070 with Romney Marsh and Rye. Additionally, junctions 9 and 10 of the M20 serve the town. The A292 ring road was built in the 1970s.

Ashford International station opened in 1994, along with the Channel Tunnel. Trains run to London, Lille and Paris, and you can be in the UK's capital within 40 minutes.

With these impressive travel links, Ashford offers you a superb base to call home, with city, countryside, coast and continent on your doorstep.
