Bolton offers the best of all worlds!

With easy access to both Manchester and the West Pennine Moors, Bolton, in the heart of England's North West, is one of Britain's newest university towns. This vibrant place is also home to a diverse community, some high-performing schools, housing at realistic prices and an exciting cultural life.

Property in Bolton offers plenty of choice for all budgets, from the energetic town centre to leafy suburbs or the picturesque villages on the outskirts. (The local transport infrastructure makes living on the edge of town very easy.) There are also urban apartments in new builds and older renovations.

Important landmarks in Bolton include the Town Hall, one of hundreds of listed buildings across the town's 26 conservation areas. Many of these are in the town centre.

Local amenities include plenty of restaurants, pubs, bars and clubs, while Bolton also has a strong sporting tradition. The town's Reebok stadium is the home ground of the local football club, the Wanderers. Boxing champion Amir Khan is one of the area's most famous sons.

Culture is on offer, too, thanks to the Bolton Museum & Art Gallery and Octagon Theatre, with its collection of local and international art.

The town also houses one of the first public libraries set up after the 1850 Public Libraries Act. Inside the Town Hall, there is a conference and theatre complex.

Bolton boasts plenty of green spaces as well, including the parkland of Leverhulme Park and Victorian Queen's Park and other open areas locally.

Transport in town

The north-south A6 passes to the west of Bolton, while the M61 has three junctions serving the borough. There's also a good network of local buses, alongside direct train services to Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow, plus a range of local services.

Manchester Airport, one of the UK's biggest, lies less than 20 miles away, and there are direct trains there from Bolton.

High-performing local schools

Local secondary schools include both state and private sector. The town also has a sixth form college and provides further education through Bolton College, while its Institute of Higher Education was awarded university status in 2005.

So if you need a handy home base within easy commuting distance of Manchester, with excellent local leisure and education facilities and a distinct regional identity, make Bolton your first port of call.
