Chelmsford - Essex's busy and booming regional centre

Chelmsford - Essex's county town - is located in the London commuter belt, making property in Chelmsford to buy (and rent) much sought after. There is a huge choice of homes of all types, sizes and styles available to purchase (or rent) in the town, and the local amenities, schools, etc. are impressive.

But don't restrict your property search to the town and its immediate outskirts. By extending your new home hunt to the nearby locations of Braintree, Tilbury, Basildon, Billericay, and Malden, you might suddenly come across the home you've always wanted, but never been lucky enough to find.

Getting there

Being situated just 30 miles north east of London, Chelmsford is easy to get to by road, rail or air (London Stansted is the closest airport). The town is accessible via the A12 from M25 Junction 28, or A12 from Colchester. It's a half-hour train journey from Chelmsford to London's Liverpool Street.

When it comes to finding great retail therapy, people in the town generally head for the Meadows and High Chelmer shopping centres, where all the big name stores can be found. Exclusive boutiques and local independent shops stock an array of luxury goods, arts and crafts, jewellery and more.

Getting active in Chelmsford!

Sports enthusiasts are well catered for in the town as shoppers. Chelmsford Sport & Athletics Centre, which was officially opened by World Cup winner Geoff Hurst in 2006, has top indoor and outdoor facilities. There is also a gym, sports hall, as well as activities and courses for all ages.

After all that, you'll need a relaxing home to return to! The good news is that the choice of properties to buy is wide. New build homes can always be found, as can detached Victorian houses, 1930s properties, and waterside apartments and houses. Cottages on the outskirts often become available.
